Real Belgian Mustard
"We dream of mustard with
100% Belgian mustard seed"
Why?
Why do we dream of 100% Belgian mustard? It is in Camp's DNA to collaborate with honest, sustainable, and local entrepreneurs. Additionally, we believe in a short supply chain, where we strive to source our ingredients as locally as possible..
Why not? Until a few decades ago, it was quite normal for mustard seed to be grown in our region. However, the knowledge has slowly been lost because mustard seed is now grown in larger quantities further afield, making it less interesting for local farmers to sow and harvest quality mustard seed..
2025
The collaboration with local farmers is an incredible success. Each year, we manage to harvest a significant portion of our mustard seed in Belgium with camps. Together with Cultivaé & Regenacterre, we are systematically working towards 100% regenerative & Belgian mustard seed that is also CO2 neutral.
We are so proud and satisfied with the quality of our Belgian mustard seed that, in addition to our extra coarse genuine Belgian mustard, we will also produce our standard pure mustard with 100% Belgian mustard seed from 2025 onwards. This is for both retail (245ml) and our larger formats (2L PET) for food service.

2023
For 2023, we have made arrangements with the same partners as in 2022 to grow Belgian mustard seed again. Are you curious about where we will be sowing this time? Look at the exact locations at the bottom. Don't hesitate to stop by to see the mustard plants in full bloom. For cycling enthusiasts: one field is located in a "spicy" spot, namely at the top of the Koppenberg.

And then where it all comes down to, the mustard!
After several months of experimenting and testing, we have created a brand new recipe that does full justice to Belgian mustard seed. We developed an extra coarse mustard with a Burgundy grade of mustard seed (>32%). A truly spicy mustard that, due to its richly filled recipe, brings forth a unique taste sensation.
Are you curious about what this mustard looks and tastes like? Order it in our webshop.
To give our launch moment some extra strength, we found a true flandrien to bring the first jar of Belgian mustard to the capital of mustard, Dijon. Alexander Schmitt is cycling all the way from Groot-Bijgaarden to Dijon in less than 90 hours. He set off on Wednesday 28 June at 4:30 am and must return to Groot-Bijgaarden within 90 hours by Saturday 1 July, covering a total of more than 1,200 km (!).
For every kilometre travelled, Camp donates 50 cents to the charity that Alexander supports, Tejo.
2022
We learned a lot from the project in 2018. We needed some time to analyse the harvest and see how we could improve the drying process. After a turbulent Corona period, we were ready to continue with the "Belgian Mustard" project in 2022. We are getting in immediately at 3 projects to learn as much as possible. The first project is in collaboration with several other local mustard producers and is supported by the Flemish Government.
The two other projects we are personally backing: one very close to home, in the Flemish Ardennes, and one in collaboration with Regenacterre and Cultivaé.
Flemish Ardennes
This year we are collaborating with Willy Naessens Agro, under the coordination of, among others, Marc Ballekens, and we have successfully sown and harvested mustard seed at 3 locations:
- Ooike, Karmstraat
- Wortegem, Bouvelostraat
- Anseroeul, Rue Bas Rejet
We are very honoured that we have found enthusiastic farmers so close to home who are willing to join us in our project. We are currently making plans to see the yellow mustard flowers blooming in some fields in 2023.
Regenacterre/Cultivaé
The cooperative Regenacterre came our way. They are a collective of farmers who want to engage in agriculture in a regenerative manner. Their primary aim is to work sustainably with the soil by avoiding intensive and monoculture farming. The planting of mustard seed turned out to fit perfectly with their ambition to enrich the soil again, making it an ideal crop rotation. They immediately got to work with our mustard seed and were able to successfully harvest for the first time in July. Thanks to the joint investments in, among other things, a drying facility, it also became possible to dry and store our mustard seed of high quality.
More information about the operation of rain gardens can be found on their site:www.regenacterre.be and https://cultivae.be

2018
The idea of bringing our dreams for Belgian mustard to fruition began in 2018. Two farmers, Raf and Jan, from Kruishoutem and Wannegem-Lede came forward with their ambition to plant quality mustard seeds again after more than 20 years. We were incredibly excited when everything went well: the sowing, the germination, the flowering, and the harvesting. But unfortunately, things went wrong during the drying of the mustard seeds. We have been able to learn a great deal from this project to further develop our plans.
